Bingo, aka the interloping monkey, has been sweet-talking Frankie quite a bit since he’s reappeared. So much so that he’s convinced her that it would be fair for him to go – fair for her to carry him.
"I’ll be packing the supplies for all of us on my monkey back," he defended his position when Claude called him out on this matter of fairness.
"Only because you insist that we need them," I heard Claude say under his breath. Come to think of it, his accent has me nearly convinced he’s French. Who knew there was anything such as a French camel?

Okay, I admit I’m obsessed with sunsets from this viewpoint. The collection of lines, lights, arcs, and mountains in the background is amazing.

One of my earliest memories of a poker game is from the 1965 movie, Cincinnati Kid. The movie follows a young poker player (played by Steve McQueen) as he pits himself against the top poker player of the time. The movie (heeded by many as one of the greatest poker movies ever) gave rise to my lifelong interest in the game. In more recent times I was pleased to watch the Matt Damon movie, Rounders.
Perhaps, what I love most about poker movies are the crisp, sarcastic dialogues, the rounds of bluffing, the quiet calculated manner of those that win, and the suspense of what the next card might be. In these movies, it is the man (or woman) with the greater intelligence that wins the game.
Poker movies provide entertainment. However, that is not my primary reason for watching them. Being unable to resist a good poker game at times, I like to stay on top of the various tips that my poker buddies keep using. And trust me, for those of us that play poker only occasionally, most of our tricks come from the movies.
One poker trick that we learn from the movies is that of reading the looks on the faces of the other players. Eyes that are downcast or have a happy glint in them are sure giveaways of the kinds of cards that a person has drawn. Of course, that unhappy looking fellow might be on to you, and might be bringing all his theatrical talents to the poker table. Be careful. Don’t give away your own cards by your facial expressions or your body language. And don’t be fooled by somebody else.
More importantly, don’t give in to an emotional outburst. In a good poker game, the pressure will build up. But you must concentrate on the game, on winning. Emotions will only give your opponents the upper hand. Don’t lose control of the game. Also, avoid drinking yourself silly during a poker game, unless you are in the mood to let other people win. A person who is drunk throughout a game is only preparing to drown in losses.
Also, the ego should be kept aside during a game. The over-confident upstart often digs his own grave all thanks to a desire for one-upmanship. It is advisable to hold on to your best hands sometimes. Let others have their season in the sun. You wait for the most opportune moment. Strike at the right time and you will be the one raking in all the moolah!

Chaplin Road Skips

Projection room

I was really pleased to see the whole projection room was still intact. These old Kalee projectors have stood silent since the cinema closed in 1962.
A real time capsule cinema hides away in the higher reaches of the Glen Royal building in Shipley. The Glen Royal closed as a cinema in 1962, It was to reopen as the Glen casino in 1963. Many alterations were made to the building over the years. Suspended ceilings were added, these effectively hid away the original features of this purpose built cinema.
The upper circle and seats remain intact above the false ceilings.
Dusty Art Deco seats remain untouched since 1962. Reels of old films, 1960′s paintwork, and other relics are to be found up high in the Glen Royal.
The Shipley Picture House Company opened this state ot the art 1200 seater cinema on the 5th September 1932. An unusual feature of the auditorium were five large windows facing south and overlooking Briggate each with internal geared shutters which could be opened to allow "the entire building to be flooded with sunlight. The Glenroyal was fitted with the American designed Western Electric Sound System, the latest Kalee rear shutter projectors were installed.
The Glen building finally closed it’s doors as Kings Bingo on January 30th 2005.
The cinema has remained closed since then, sadly the vandals have been in at some point doing there worst. False ceilings have been pulled down, holes punched in walls, burst water pipes, tables and chairs tipped over, and grafitti in the bingo hall.
Cinemas are built with very few windows in them. Thankfully the Vandals have been limited to areas with natural light. this has kept the mindless idiots away from the pitch black old cinema, and projection room areas. The best bits remain virtually unscathed for the explorer with torch power 
An abandoned cinema always seem to have a ghost story associated with it. The Glen Royal didn’t break with tradition. Apparently a lady ghost was frequently seen hurrying towards the front where the screen used to be. We didn’t see a ghost that night, just a stray Tomcat who had found a sneaky way in to the building. His eyes lit up in the beam of the torch enough to make us jump. He seemed to have great hunting prowess too, many a headless pigeon littered the floor. With a flick of the tail, he was up and away behind the proscenium, never to be seen, or heard again that night.
I’m not quiet sure how a state of the art cinema managed to only stay open for 30 years. The early 60′s seems an early era for it to close to me. It was well before the masses owned a T.V .
The final films to be shown on Saturday the 8th December 1962 were.
”The Loudest Whisper” Starring Audrey Hepburn, Shirley Maclaine and James Garner.
And
”Gun Street” Starring James Brown, Jean Willes and John Clarke.
